Freepers Can’t Control Themselves…Shut Down Kennedy Forum
May 20, 2008Several of the right-wing commentators at Free Republic didn’t exactly have a “compassionate conservative” reaction to the sad news of Sen. Ted Kennedy’s brain tumor.
Among the more reprehensible responses:
I would take a stab at what Mary Jo will say to him but I don’t think they’re going to meet in the same place.

Tuesday, May 20, 2008 1:24:19 PM by Bloody Sam RobertsStrange how you can wish all sorts of terrible things upon someone who has almost single-handedly destroyed the country and then you hear about something like this and you remember what your grandmother told you about not saying anything if you have nothing nice to say, so………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Boy,*that* should get the DUmmies going!
Tuesday, May 20, 2008 1:29:21 PM by Gay State ConservativeThere are many, many ways to respond to this statement…
However, I am going to honor my late Mom who always said if you cannot say something nice about someone, don’t say anything.
Therefore, silence shall be golden hereabouts!

You don’t have to put yourself down to feel that way. I’m sure you are not a murder. I have no prayers or best wishes to offer either so I’m staying away from the threads.

Tuesday, May 20, 2008 1:42:41 PM by ConservaTexanSenator Kennedy is an evil, wicked man who is fortunate to have been given this opportunity for repentance before he dies. I pray he does just that.
I join you in that prayer.

Think positive, we will have one less murderous traitor to worry about.

Eventually, Free Republic shut down the forum:

Some of you are a disgrace to this forum, and life is too short to waste cleaning up your messes.
Just an FYI, Bush is the only “Compassionate Conservative”
Hateful, hateful, HATEFUL. I love the irony of the following:
“I am a sinner and by no means perfect but this sorry sack of garbage was given the opportunity to repent before he meets his Creator.”
I guess this guy knows what’s in Ted’s heart better than Ted does… interesting. I thought that a man’s relationship with God was between… him and God?
Well, you know, it’s sometimes occurred to me that the powerless minions of Corporate America seem to take their politics more seriously, and more viscerally, than people who talk about politics for a living, and people who make a living doing politics.
Or maybe the concept of the “loyal opposition” has just gone way out of fashion.
The way I see it, with all the people on the right making hay over this, not one single one of them had better say a word when I say I loathed Jerry Falwell and the world is better off without him.
Kudos to Free Republic and their response to this ugliness.
Remember the militia caller on your show last night? The man who’d just come back from training in Sherman, TX?
$5 says he’s a Freeper. Maybe even one of these commenters.
If you ever wondered what Nazi Germany might have been like in the 1930s, this stuff is closer to it than you’d ever expect in the USA. History doesn’t always repeat, but it can sure rhyme.
Damn, Mouse… are you a writer? I’m totally serious. You’ve got some kind of semi-black, disillusioned, realist tone in your writing, but it almost always makes sense. (This is a compliment by the way.)
No, I’m no writer. But thanks … I think.
I’m not really “semi-black”, just a little worried sometimes. There’re shades of the above mentioned in this right wing stuff that should concern all of us. The Freeper mixing of religion and politics is the worst of it. How can they be so wrong about anything when God is on their side, huh?
It’s like a grass fire. If you catch it early, you can stomp it out before it gets out of hand. But it can get away from you in the blink of an eye, and before you know it the flames are spreading faster than you can stomp.
“History doesn’t repeat itself, but it does rhyme.”
Mark Twain, by the way.
Agree or disagree, it’s better to keep your comments about someone in their time of crisis to yourself. Taking shots like the elephants are is just a whole bowl of wrong.
Honestly I find this no uglier than the obamabots and the media’s hate and attitude towards Hillary Clinton whom I support 100%. Nor is it any uglier than the liberal hate I witness in the ‘world politics forum’ on craigslist with their obsession (and hate) for “Jews” and Israel.
I’m an atheist, my heritage is Jewish (and I’m proud of that), and I’m an independent liberal who supports Hillary and will NOT vote for the messiah Obama.
I find tons of ugliness and ignorance in this country everywhere I turn.
” I WOULD RATHER HUNT WITH CHENY THEN RIDE SHOT GUN WITH KENNEDY”
Mouse, it was definitely a compliment. I guess I just picked descriptive words with not so great connotations.

AMEN, brother.
I think that Free Republic handled the situation well with their response.
These people who make these comments about ANYONE who has to face what Kennedy is facing are the scum leaching off the scum that lives around the asshole of the lowest form of scum!
Many say to pray for Ted Kennedy?
I prayed that Ted Kennedy wouldn’t pass a gun control bill to take my guns away so that I could not protect my family.
Ted Kennedy killed Mary Jo in his car.
Ted Kennedy advocated pulling out of Iraq on the eve of its first constitutional vote.
Ted Kennedy ran around his beach house naked while his nephew raped a woman.
Ted Kennedy tried many times to take away my healthcare choices and to socialize my healthcare.
Ted Kennedy wasted $12 billion in the “Big Dig”.
Yeah, let’s pray for Ted Kennedy to leave us the hell alone for good. The crazy SOB is dangerous!!!
Maybe he has learned that his karma has caught up with him.
if this is the case, it would be interesting to see what GW’s or D.Cheney’s karma will do to them….
While not disagreeing that the comments above are out of bounds, I think a few things should be kept in mind:
First, how many similar threads have we seen on liberal-leaning forums like Daily Kos or Democratic Underground in which, frankly, far *more* hateful comments were posted in the wake of the deaths of Jerry Falwell or William F. Buckley?
Second, the above comments do not constitute the entirety of the thread, or even the majority of it; I see quite a few posts expressing sympathy for Kennedy and his family even while disagreeing with his politics. How many similar expressions of sympathy did Falwell or Buckley’s families get on Kos or DU? Not many, from what I recall.
And third — notice that the Freeper board moderator *locked the thread* within a couple of hours, and basically told the jerks that they were being jerks and he didn’t think their comments were appropriate? Again — how many threads get locked at Kos or DU for similarly inappropriate behavior?
Not that I’m *defending* the Freepers who made those comments, mind you — I’m just saying, *neither* side has a monopoly on this kind of simian poo-flinging.
I don’t generally emote a lot over people I’ve never met, but one thing I will say is Buckley had a helluva fun vocabulary, and, despite his politics, I “miss” him and Firing Line.
The “… but they did it first, mommy …” defense ^.
I watched Senator Kenney “walk” out of the hospital this morning on the news, and I was struck by how much he’s begun to look like Jerry Falwell.
No one deserves to die a horrible death…including Mary Jo. Maybe he is sorry, maybe it was just a horrible mistake, and maybe he will repent. However God is a JUST God. Even though he is forgiving he will still punish those who deserve it. This is punishment for murder. No matter what the reason was her death is HIS fault, and no one else’s. His actions directly caused her to die. Whether it was accidental or not is a mute point. He is the sole reason Mary Jo is not alive, married, and a mother to day. How would you all feel if Mary Jo was your little sister? I bet you would not be nearly as compassionate for Ted if she were.
His actions directly caused her to die. Whether it was accidental or not is a mute point.
June 15th is the one year anniversary of the death of my brother’s girlfriend. Her name was Lulu. She died in a car accident, my brother was driving the car, he was making a legal u-turn at a stop light and some asshole in an 18 wheeler pressed to make the light side-swiped them. Lulu was a part of my family. Whether or not things happen accidentally are not moot points, they get right to the heart of the matter.
Nevermind. I’m done blogging.
And that was NOT your brother’s fault; it was the 18 wheeler’s fault. I am horribly sorry to hear that and pray that your family and Lulu’s will be able to heal from this. However when you drive drunk, as Ted is claiming he did, then IT IS YOUR FAULT. If you get behind the wheel intoxicated, I do not give a DAMN what the reason is, ANYHTING that happens is your fault and you deserve to pay the consequences. There are very few things in life that I have absolutely no tolerance for but driving drunk is one of them.
Karma, what’s happening to Ted Kennedy has nothing to do with “karma” or punishment as you earlier said.
Sometimes Karma, when people get old, they get sick. They develop serious illness’s and sometimes terminal ones. In fact, and I do hate to break this to you, it eventually happens to everyone.
Happens to young people too sometimes.
How can a tumor survive soaking in all that booze?
