Tennessee GOP Takes Cheap Shot At Michelle Obama
May 16, 2008And they apparently couldn’t find any black people to participate in this video. Or maybe they just didn’t think of it.

And they apparently couldn’t find any black people to participate in this video. Or maybe they just didn’t think of it.
This is indicative of what is coming up in the next six months:
http://stuffwhitedbagslike.wordpress.com/2008/05/14/d-bags-in-the-news-mike-norman/
They didn’t have any black people, but they did have a token minority, who was also an immigrant! Two for one special!
Most of those people probably wouldn’t even want Michele Obama to live in their neighborhood. Or Juan the police officer either.
Juan the police officer… LOL
Here are the stereotypes presented in this video:
1. Preppy white kid. Tate, Grad student at Vanderbilt. Did you notice he said he’s proud of our freedom of religion, “so that if my pastor goes on a wild political tirade I can just walk out”. (that was actually funny)
2. Southern Pride Bob, shootin’ pool and speaking about God and Guns… with 50 guns hanging on his back wall.
3. Juan, the “good” immigrant, who learned to speak English and got an education, and did well enough for himself to buy a nice suit. (I personally believe that if you’re here, you need to learn to speak the language for your benefit and mine.)
4. Michelle, young successful white woman, policy analyst, speaking on all of our incredible job opportunities for women.
5. Katherine, the feminist, business owner, tolerant of other religions.
6. Bob, successful businessman, realtor, 3rd generation American.
It’s not always easy to tell someone’s race by their voice, but the narrator may have been black.
Wait, the Brits, French, etc., were all playing tiddly winks until we came in? Huh, I did not know that. Thanks, Tate R. You’ve done Vanderbilt proud.
Oh, get this. The “Brits” is short for British..oh, it also seems they come from another country. My Jesus Land map might be inaccu…..
CRAAACK BOOM
Attention: W F G has been struck by lightning and can therefor no longer continue this comment.
Signed, God.
“Southern Pride Bob” got into an altercation yesterday with “Juan the ‘Good’ Immigrant-Police Officer” and Juan had to lock him up.
LOL Cheryl, excellent analysis of that ad!
Whoa, Alan, how is this a cheap shot? She’s the one who started it. “For the first time in my life, I’m proud of my country.” Direct implication: throughout her life, until 2008, she’s been ashamed of America or just “tolerates” America. Isn’t that a little extreme for a potential first lady? Perhaps if she retracted/apologized for that bizarre statement the GOP wouldn’t hammer it.
Oh that’s too bad about WFG. I guess he’ll be missing the Red Eye guys tonight on Alan’s show. I heard he liked them.
Even in ‘04 the Repubs did not go after Theresa Heinz Kerry, John Kerry’s wife. Not in a political ad. She could be controversial at times as well.
Michelle Obama isn’t running for president, her husband is. A new low blow. Very low.
What’s next? Barack’s kids and some of the comments they’ve made in school?
I don’t think Teresa said anything that rose to this level of bizarre. She said “shove it” one time to a reporter and I didn’t think it was an issue. Obama calling a reporter “sweetie” the other day is not an issue either. Certain things like that aren’t really controversial.
Mrs. Obama saying that she’s only NOW proud of her country really is perplexing, strange, and I wish she would clarify or apologize for it. She wants to be first lady and we as a country should gloss over the fact that she has not been proud of the country that her husband could be leading and that she will have a monstrous amount of influence over? Is it a racial thing she is alluding to? Very strange.
Kids should be off-limits unless they are old enough and inject themselves into the campaign. Potential first ladies should not be.
She DID clarify it. She made that comment in reference to what she sees going on in the political process in regards to her husband. She has never seen so many people become so enthused for the sake of a new candidate who promises something different.
I agree with her. And the fact that it is a black candidate is really something to marvel at and be PROUD of. Those are my words. I don’t for the life of me, understand what is so damn bizarre.
Except for the fact that you are a conservative and do not care for Barack Obama. So his wife and anyone else becomes fair game. That’s fine. When Cindy McCain makes a comment I don’t like I’ll say so. But if I had the means to do it, I WOULD NOT use her comment in some negative, disparaging ad.
Play politics all you want. Leave the wife and kids out of it.
Holy shit, Epiphany… you’re right. I really wouldn’t be surprised if they start interviewing the Obama children’s schoolmates, or at least their parents. And I am NOT joking.
I wasn’t impressed with Michelle Obama’s statement. She should have phrased it better. I’m not proud of many things that POLITICIANS have done, but that doesn’t make me not proud of my American heritage.
Some people think that Obama is a muslim and that Michelle is a racist and the false accusations train goes on…and it is all over-exaggeratedly bizarre.
But how can Michelle Obama be racist if her husband is half-white?
Michelle has always been very vocal in healing race relations in Ohio, standing up for injustices against blacks, jews, asians, and everything.
She has always believed that you give everyone the same opportunity and let them make it from there.
Hasn’t anyone made research on her?
Everyone starts assuming false things because of what the dirty media gives you to believe! Don’t believe all that u hear. Conduct ur own research and while you’re at it, enlighten yourselves.
Samantha~ I’m in the process of reading Michelle thesis statement. It’s almost 100 pages. I tried to post the link but the LL site won’t let me, but it’s on Politico. You can also google ‘michelle obama thesis’ to get right to it.
You seem really open minded, I hope you keep visiting the blog. :-)
Did she clarify it? When? Maybe she did, but I never heard it, Epiphany. I heard the context…why didn’t she just say something like “I could not be prouder of my country than I am now.” Why the “for the first time in my adult life…” stuff? And if she made the clarification, send me the link.
Playing politics? I don’t want someone who has the “pillow” of the President who is wishy-washy about her love for this country. It isn’t a cheap shot when the first lady wields a lot more political influence than she used to. I also find it difficult to grasp how someone as rich and successful and blessed like her can make a comment like that. I’ll never be that successful or rich and I’m darn proud of everything that this country offers.
Here’s the quote: “And let me tell you something — for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change.”
I don’t like when people play “gotcha,” so if she made a clarifying statement, then so be it. I don’t remember it. If Cindy McCain makes a crazy and/or bizarre comment and doesn’t clarify it or apologize for it she should have the same scrutiny. This is not some sort of city council position. We’re talking the presidency. Details matter.
yeah, uh, her thesis is restricted until further notice. Actually, until after election day in November.
pfft lol.
Cindy McCain plagiarizes. Michelle at least says her own stuff.
Please, you cannot compare McCindy to Michelle. McCindy is the richest stepford wife there is and owns her own beer business. Not to mention that yes, she’s known to plagiarize recipes and claims them to be hers. (and looks like a fake plastic old Barbie)
But Michelle? That girl grew out of the ghetto while being very poor, studied really hard, got her scholarship, and became the lawyer she always wanted to be. She might not have credentials like McCain or her husband, but Michelle has an impressive resume.
And she might not be as fake looking as Cindy but at least she tries in her speeches.
We all know by now that she doesn’t make the most impressive speeches. But she deserves credit for it.
Michelle Hussein Obama; 1st [lady] ?
Yes that’s her. I think I’ll name my pitbull puppy Michelle Hussein Obama….sounds quite lovely.
o yes, o yes.
Did you know my middle name was Hussein?
Well as a matter of fact it is Rod Hussein Gallagher.
And what u gonna do….
;-)
Rod~ NO, it’s not. I have a hard copy sitting 3 feet away from me. I’m going to try to post the link again:
http://www.polit ico.com/news/stor ies/0208/ 8642.html
cheryl- it didn’t work. Have u read it?
Damn Flap why can’t you do your OWN homework? LOL :)
Ok here is the first link I found:

I’ll repost it here anyway.
Michelle Obama clarifies ’source of pride’ comment
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The wife of Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama sought Wednesday to clarify her comment that for the first time she’s really proud of her country.
On Monday, Michelle Obama told an audience in Milwaukee that “For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country. Not just because Barack is doing well, but I think people are hungry for change.” Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential contender John McCain, later sought to capitalize on the remark, saying, “I have, and always will be, proud of my country.”
Asked by WJAR-TV if she would like to clarify her comment, Obama replied that she has been struck by the number of people going to rallies and watching debates, as well as record voter turnouts.
“What I was clearly talking about was that I’m proud in how Americans are engaging in the political process,” she said.
“For the first time in my lifetime, I’m seeing people rolling up their sleeves in a way that I haven’t seen and really trying to figure this out — and that’s the source of pride that I was talking about,” she added.
When asked if she had always been proud of her country, she replied “absolutely” and said she and her husband would not be where they are now if not for the opportunities of America.
I added the spaces between some of the url so that the computer wouldn’t recognize it and reject it again.
About Obama’s middle name… Mark Levin refers to him as Barak “Milhouse” Obama HILARIOUS the joke of course being that he doesn’t want the controversy of using his middle name.
You know, I am not an Obama supporter but I end up spending so much time defending him. HE’S NOT A MUSLIM, HIS MIDDLE NAME DOESN’T MEAN HE’S MUSLIM. WHO CARES THAT HIS MIDDLE NAME IS HUSSEIN???? Damn, get over it people. How about bitching about his health care policy? Or his views regarding national defense?
Budda~ you’re right. I AM about to have a stroke, but not about our disagreement. It’s about THIS crap.
Hells yeah, man! Well, I’ve read about a third of it. I’m also reading THE MISEDUCATION OF THE NEGRO by Carter G. Woodson and A POWER GOVERNMENTS CANNOT SUPPRESS by Howard Zinn.
Just google “michelle obama thesis”, man.
Well I can’t wait to read Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama’s thesis. She obviously sees black people and white people, eternally conflicted with one another.
I have always had an interest on race issues since i’m half white, half black. I’am only 25 and should have become some sort of justice social worker for the people.
I would read her 1985 thesis on racial division anytime!
Maybe she’ll enlighten me a little?
Okay, well you also need to read THE MISEDUCATION OF THE NEGRO, published in 1933. Also read an article I wrote here: http://mamashouse.org/Americas-Original-Sin.html I have two websites, this one far from finished, so just read the article. Also visit Noel’s blog here:

We’re not “eternally” conflicted with each other, just right now.
Does anyone want to do a chat room type thing tonight during the show? Or twitter?
holy crap, it is…….–type written–…..
how cool?
I know!!! I’m very excited about getting into her mind, especially since it’ll offer further insight into Obama. Just think about it- this is his WIFE, they’re married for a reason. Wives and husbands don’t believe in all the same things all the time, but it’ll be interesting.
Who wants to chat tonight? Or are we just going to post here?
chery- you sound bossy… But in a good way. =)
are you the leader of LiberalLand? lol
I don’t know about a chat room. I don’t do well in chat rooms. LOL. I lose the ability to edit my thoughts as opposed to being on here.
Okay. :-(
I’m not the leader, Big A is. I just like talking to the people on here.
I didn’t mean to say you “need” to read those other things, I meant that you “should”. Sorry!
What did the TNGOP pay these people? And this is just another example of how desperate the the Republicans are….they have to stoop so low as to pick on the wife of the next president of the United States. What is this….? Revenge for bringing up the fact that Laura Bush killed someone in a car crash……I guess this means that Cindy McCain is fair game now? I wouldn’t go there because I don’t think the wives of the candidates are fair game…John McCain doesn’t seem to think so….because he isn’t pushing his wife to release her tax returns, I guess the rules are different for Republicans than they are Democrats? We already know they are different for whites and African Americans……Not only is this video, BS….but it also misrepresents what Michelle actually said….and am quite surprised that that the fickle media would allow this ‘free advertising” just to hurt the Obamas yet again…..

chery~ Don’t you even care about the misleading fodder within this outrageous ad? This isn’t the first time the the THGOP has been this crass…this even goes back Harold Ford’s campaign for the Senate in 2006~!! What a shameful display…and are we that gullible to fall for it again?
Also visit Noel’s blog here:

Rod~ The above 2 comments were for you. They were in one comment that’s still “awaiting moderation” b/c of the links. I got tired of waiting.
Lucieann~ What do you mean? I already commented on what I thought of it… I honestly don’t understand what you’re asking me here.
oh uhuh nice blogs. Noel might just be an Obama specialist to the point of maybe being a little to obsessive? J/k, lol, but hey great blogs, eloquent writing. Completely agree.
Yeah lucieanne I also believe the video misrepresents Michelle’s statements. But for the meanwhile, this is what we’re going to be hearing for the next couple of days for anyone trying to botch and shoot down the Obamas. And I bet that as the election in November gets close, we’re going to be hearing even worse news about the candidates.
oh cheryl–i think, if i’m not mistaken, that u might have actually mispelled Barack’s name in the first sentence on ur website. Very nice though, very nice….
im not done reading, far from it though! lol
You know “Obama girl”? Noel is “Obama boy” LOL He’s not obsessed, it’s just the the media coverage of BS stories has given him and others plenty of opportunity to defend him.
Yeah and he is not the only one. My friends and I are completely on the Obama bandwagon as well. It’s just something about Obama that truly inspires us young folks because of his sheer magnetism. His character is fresh, intellectual, and he’s just prophetic quality.
Rivals attack him as inexperienced after just four years in Congress, but he always seems to triumph through grassroots support, inspiring speeches and his real message for change.
I don’t want my viscious and erratic pushover mom for president or an alzheimer patient who can’t distinguish between the sunnis and the shiites.
Sooo Obama has my vote.
I highly recommend the following site for an index on where each politician stands:
http://www.ontheissues.org
politicans ARE the problem ! That includes the WHITE ones !
awww shit… Jerry’s trying to be fair to black people?! Puttin blacks and whites on an equal playin field?
I must be dreaming…
The jerks at the TN GOP edited out the word “really” in her statement “really proud of my country” to put her in a worse light. Is the TN GOP engaged in outright lieing now?
I have a bit of concern that this election, assuming it’s Obama vs McCain, could be nastier than most and has the potential to have a very negative impact on black/white relations. I hope I’m wrong…
Craig~ I see it heading that way too.
I feel that if Mrs Obama,or Mrs McCain,is going to get behind podiums and make speeches then the comments she makes are most certainly open to inquiry. They can’t expect to get up in front of an audience and say anything they want without impunity.
Craig, I agree. The First Lady has a role of her own, and she is “fair game” so to speak. Do I like the TN GOP add? No. But she’s not going to be a powerless puppet. The First Lady is entitled to an office and a staff to help her with her charity and other socio-political work.
Some might ask, why have I returned. It’s thanks to Jebus’ mercy, and the medical skills of a Briton from the land of Kangaroos, Arkansautralia.

lol. Well welcome back WFG.
A potential first lady should be open to critique or a debate by strategists or pundits, talk show hosts etc, depending upon the public statements that she makes. But not in the history of this country has any candidate or any group associating with that candidate ever taken out an ad against the opposing candidate’s wife.
It’s just bad manners and totally inappropriate. The wife is NOT the one who is running for the office, her husband is. I would feel exactly the same if an ad were to be taken out against Cindy McCain. And if this continues against Michelle Obama I fear that other groups will do exactly the same with Cindy.
This is the low road for sure.
Just like Mutton Chops talking about jumping “wire feces”, I don’t know if “Jebus” is a typo or a joke…
Either way, I’m glad that someone showed you mercy and allowed you to come back to LIBERAL LAND!!!
Joke. My views on religion are mixed. I’m both a secularist and a person who doesn’t assume a lack of religion will greatly improve society, respecting, though, that man is capable of improving things, and has shown himself to be.
Michelle Obama Explained Her Remarks, Saying That Her Pride Was In The Political Process And That She Was “Absolutely” Always Proud Of America. The New York Times reported, “Asked today to clarify the remark by a local news station in Rhode Island, which holds its primary during the next round, on March 4, she said, ‘What I was clearly talking about was that I’m proud in how Americans are engaging in the political process,’ according to the Associated Press. ‘For the first time in my lifetime, I’m seeing people rolling up their sleeves in a way that I haven’t seen and really trying to figure this out — and that’s the source of pride that I was talking about.’ She added that she has ‘absolutely’ always felt proud of her country and that she and her husband owed where they are today to America’s possibilities.” [New York Times, 2/21/08]
FULL QUOTE: Michelle Obama said, “What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback. And let me tell you something–for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I’ve seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues, and it’s made me proud.” [New York Times, 2/19/08]
