McGovern Tells Hillary To Drop Out

May 7, 2008

He formerly backed her. Now he’s supporting Obama and says she can’t win the nomination.  Is he right?

  1. Yes. I know you are for her Alan, but it needs to be over. Obama will crush McCain and the Conservative idiots. Whst is the point of going on? So she can get her W Virgina and Kentucky wins? I just don’t understand the stubborness of it.

  2. I’m inclined to say, “Bah!” but only because I’m waiting for someone with a brain to delineate whether or not Barack is or is not only winning big in states that Democrats aren’t likely to carry in the general election, and how the electoral map might look as a result.

  3. RC~ I’m with you.

But the primaries AREN’T over yet.

Screw McGovern. As it stands now, there is a 156 delegate difference between them. If the race remains close, then she needs to stay in it. Right now the question is just who do DEMOCRATS want to lead the country, whereas in November the question is who do AMERICANS as a unit want? Even without any fancy political analyst tools, I confidently say that the public will be more likely to choose Clinton over McCain.

  4. Yes he’s right.

  5. “Haywood Jablomey”~ cute name. Are you the same guy who called during radio graffiti and said, “when I smell my fingers I feel sexy”?

  6. yes.

Cheryl, the race is NOT close. Maybe in Hillary’s world of alternate reality, but 156 delegates is pretty substantial. She can’t possibly catch up to him in pledged delegates, and it doesn’t look like the superdelegates are going to bail her out either.

  7. Michael~ I respectfully beg to differ. I see how the difference of 156 delegates seems like a big deal, however…

In 2004, Kerry finished with 2162 delegates to Edwards 534. Definitely not a close race.

In 2000, Gore consistently beat Bradley with at least a 50% share of the Dem vote. (The smallest spread between them was 4 points in the NH primary, with Gore getting 50% and Bradley 46%… but the spread continued to widen as the primaries continued.)

To my knowledge, this primary is the closest in the Democratic party history. So I say again:

Right now the question is just who do DEMOCRATS want to lead the country, whereas in November the question is who do AMERICANS as a unit want?

  8. Is he right? Who cares? Clinton may do as she wants.

  9. Hillary needs to fucking stop! Is that more clear?

  10. Just as Haywood says……..enough already

  11. Haywood~ LOL

    but you’re still wrong.

  12. didn’t you guys read what i wrote about the prev dem primaries in 2000 and 2004?????

  13. I have to agree with George McGovern as well. This campaign has gone on too long and has reached ridiculous proportions. I have never seen anything like this in my very long life. It is destructive.

There is not a chance that Hillary can surpass Barack’s numbers. It doesn’t matter if she wins all the remaining 6 primaries, Barack will still be ahead in states, votes and delegates.

This is hurting my party. Too much devisiveness. It has gotten very ugly. It isn’t about Hillary Clinton. It’s about beating John McCain. It would be a disaster if this went all the way to the convention. I don’t think the Democratic party will let that happen. This will be decided in June.

I would have supported either one of them. I am Pro-Democrat In The Whitehouse. Period. I admire greatly Hillary’s kick assedness. But enough is enough.

Barack Obama will be the nominee. So let’s band together and get this over with. It is time to start the general campaign.

    ENOUGH ALREADY.

  14. Hillary’s ego won’t let her stop.
She’s like a rich madman who thinks that their the emporor and hires an army to prove it.

  15. It’s not her ‘ego’, Craig. That woman has been working for the underprivileged all of her adult life. Helping others is truly her life purpose.

And I don’t think she should drop out, for reasons aforementioned.

  16. I actually think it is her ego…Bill Richardson was absolutely right when he said that Hillary had a sense of entitlement to the presidency.

No matter what definition of “close”, you choose to use, she still can’t win. Fact is that she needs overwhelming support from the superdelegates, and they have been bolting to Obama for months. She used to have a significant lead in that department, and that has dwindled down to near nothing.

Cheryl, you’re right in saying that this WAS a close contest. Both candidates have gotten lots of support from lots of key demographics. But the time has come to face facts. Hillary isn’t going to win….and even if she did “win” by having the superdelegates overturn the will of the voters, would it be worth it for her? That would alienate quite a few of Obama’s supporters and would hurt the Democrats severely in November.

No matter how you look at it, Hillary is not doing any good by staying in the race. She and Obama will continue beating on eachother while John McCain sits back with a big grin on his face. And even if she were to “win” in the unethical way she is seeking to do so, it would cause such a fiasco that it wouldn’t be worth it for her or the country.

  17. Right on Michael. I COULDn’t agree with you anymore.
I believe Hilary used Bill as a stepping stone to her presidential candidacy. And by the way, she is not the first woman to ever run for president.
    Do your research folks.
It is a FACT that this is a close contest but, mathematically and realistically, she has lost already. Sorry Hilary lovers. We must move on and face reality.

  18. Enough. Hillary, stop already.

  19. I hear you, Michael.

The only reason I applied to Wellesley College way back when was b/c Hillary had gone there. I’ve always been a big fan of the work that she and Bill have done. I mean, they have really worked their butts off to take care of “the people”. I think that any sense of entitlement she might have is b/c the Presidency is the next step to continuing her life long commitment to empowering Americans.

  20. Right. I’m not condemning her work, I’m condemning her tactics. She seems to have the attitude that she is the only one qualified or worthy of being President.

  21. I wonder how Hillary is going to handle supporting Obama against McCain in the public eye after pounding the idea that she’s the only one that can beat him in the general election. As well, how she’s been saying that Obama isn’t ready for the responsibilities of the presidency. I would think she would begin to tone down the retoric and start warming up to Obama in order to strenghten the party.
Or…….maybe she’d like to just sabatoge Obama’s campaign in hopes that McCain would win and give her another shot in 2012?

  22. Michael~ I hear you, brother.

  23. Craig~ if she doesn’t get the nomination, then she will have no choice but to support him. I don’t think that she’ll have to explain supporting him, you know? It’ll be expected. Now if she puts herself in the position to be interviewed by a reporter who will specifically ask the questions that you ask above, I don’t know what she will be able to say. But I doubt she will put herself in that position.

And the nominee hasn’t been chosen yet, so you’re just speculating at this point.

  24. Once again the “Liberal Left-Wing” of my party resorts to bringing forward (or should I say backward) a pathetic loser to inject his unwanted opinion of the current race. If he was such a pillar of the party he would have been more visible in the past presidential elections. I guess that Howard (THE SHREIKER) Dean has allowed this example of LIBERAL LUNACY to espouse his belief that Barack HUSSEIN Obama is “more electable” than Hillarity Clitgone (what a crock) everyone knows that a substandard white candidate such as Hillarity has a better chance at the White House than a BIGOT & RACIST like Obama, Sharpton, or Jesse (PHILANDERER) Jackson. If Colin Powell or Condelezza Rice had run as Democrat instead I believe either one would be unstoppable, but those in my party give us unelectable candidates instead and cry RACISM at the earliest opportunity. It is for this fact that by default I’ll be voting for John “AMNESTY” McCain this Nov. as I believe he’s the only hope for our country remaining in the race.

  25. Bye bye Hilary!

  26. Obama will never win the general election. The majority of states that he has won it the primary have historically went Republican. This won’t even be as close as Bush/Gore. With the only difference being that when Obama loses there’ll be riots.
