McCain Didn’t Vote For Bush

May 5, 2008

So says Huffington:

“I didn’t vote for George Bush” the man confessed. “I didn’t either,” his wife added. Their names: John and Cindy McCain (Cindy told me she had cast a write-in vote for her husband).

  1. Most folks don’t vote “for” anybody these days. It’s turned into a vote against the other party.

  2. Amen Craig!! (never thought I’d say that) :) We are truly an increasingly divided country, and I hope that changes in the future. Because it’s the only way that we’ll get anything positive done.

  3. >We are truly an increasingly divided country
I’m not sure that monoculture is a big improvement, particularly if you feel an urge towards dissent.
The divisions are not as worrisome as the lack of civility.
I blame this lack of civility on immaturity fostered by a nanny state, but reasonable people may differ.

  4. C Smith, I think that you misunderstand. I’m not interested in “monoculture”….civility is actually partially what I was talking about.

The division I spoke of is that of Deomcrats and Republicans, Liberals and conservatives, etc. They get to be almost like high school cliques….you’re in the one guys corner no matter what. You drink your party’s kool aid without thinking for yourself, etc. (This is not directed at you) I think this is exactly why George Washington warned against forming political partys.

If we could just get a civil debate going and people weren’t such “party animals”, maybe, just maybe, we’d be able to find a lot more common ground that most people think.

  5. Alan just said he’s suprised McCain isn’t getting more of a rough ride. A few weeks ago the media was crying that this Dem battle would give McCain all the time to get ahead…then once they knew how dumb that was they said well it’s amazing he’s not making more out fo this Dem fight.

McCain is raising no money, he keeps making gaffes (last Friday in Denver on oil being the reason for ME tension), and any Dem should be dancing at the fact McCain is getting no coverage.

Other than the obvious abandonment of his “maverick” principles which once held, his flip flops on fiscal conservatism, his position on immigration, his 100 years in Iraq (real or perceived), as well as a history of baggage (Keating 5 and calling his wife some choice names!) is going to provide for some amazing fireworks come the autumn. And I havnen’t even gotten into Hagee or the reconciliation with Jerry Falwell, that “agent of intolerance”…or his close friendship with the unapologetic G. Gordon Liddy!

Ooooooh baby, I can’t wait for the true fall classic!

  6. I’m not so sure we are becoming increasingly divided.

Humans are tribal. It’s you against me, us against them. If there’s no external motivation for taking sides we’ve still got our insecurities. And I suspect it’s been that way since the beginning. However I also suspect that as a result of the media culture we are far “aware” of just how divided we frequently are, as a nation, and as a species.

  7. is stuff like this that makes me, a conservative, very lukewarm on mccain. but imo he’s better then the liar clinton and the deceiver obama.

  8. WHAT IS WITH THE KOOL-AID??? I want to laugh too. I want to be part of the kool-aid drinking crowd! (unless you guys are referring to the Jim Jones suicides…)

Even worse than being divided, we HATE each other. Each side thinks the other side is EVIL. Michael, I agree- this is totally a high school clique thing.

  9. Are these avitars(sp?)on our posts new or have I been a bit obtuse?

  10. Craig, these things are new. I did another post asking about it and just saw yours. It’s kind of cool, livens things up a bit.
