Did You Need A Gun At Work Today?

April 10th, 2008, 2:22 PM EDT

In Florida, potential McCain VP choice Governor Charlie Crist will sign a bill the NRA has been fighting for, enabling Floridians to bring guns to work, against the wishes of the business community. The Preservation & Protection of the Right to Keep & Bear Arms in Motor Vehicles Act becomes law July 1 if there is no pending lawsuit.  Thankfully, there probably will be one.

It will be really nice to know that some crazy employee will be able to run to his car if you tick him off, get his gun, and come back loaded for bear.

  1. Yeah, and the antis screamed about shootouts over parking spaces and Wild West type scenarios when CCW laws were passed and that didn’t happen either.

Did you know that people like me, with a CCW, do not have a waiting period? I can purchase a gun in the time it takes to get my background check through. So, even if I didn’t have my pistol in my car, I could go less than a mile away from where I work, buy a new pistol, then come back. Nothing is different, yet you seem to think us gun owners are just itching to kill someone. That’s called “projection”.

No, this law is awful and a waste of my NRA dues, but that doesn’t mean its passage will create murderers out of law abiding citizens.

Makes a great sound bite though for people who can’t think very clearly.

  2. Floridians have always had the legal ability to carry guns, securely encased, in their vehicles. Recently companies have denied that right to their employees as a condition for employment. The new law just prevents a business from firing you for exercising the right we had already. That’s nothing to wet the bed about.

A crazed employee bent on destruction will not be detered by a “no guns at work” rule if he is willing to break the law against murder. How does using this example support your position?

  3. I don’t want a gun. I want a sack of cream-topped pies. And the next guy that mouths off–bam! Right in the kisser.

  6. Hey, Alan: When’s the last time someone invited you to a shooting range?
    Would you go if invited?

  7. This is what liberals (usually liberals) don’t get- most anyone who is crazy enough to go out to his car and get a gun isn’t going to follow the law to begin with! It’s like those who argue that we should ban concealed weapons, because a crazy might walk around carrying one. Since when did crazies start obeying the law or caring what anyone else said?!

In the end, gun crazies don’t give a rat’s behind what laws are on the book concering their right (or lack of) to carry a gun…which means- the good guys will always be outgunned when the crazy does pull out his illegally carried weapon!
