On Friday’s Radio Show…
Guest host Ellis Henican fills in for Alan.
Topics include:
• How come Easter has been able to keep its identity as a religious holiday but Christmas is such a commercialized, frenetic mess?
• A surprising new poll suggests that 1 in 5 Democrats would vote for McCain if their favorite candidate doesn’t clinch the nomination. Are you one of them?

1) Santa Claus has gravitas. The Easter Bunny does not.
2) Probably 3 in 5 Americans don’t have a clue how justices are appointed to the Supreme Court, because they have never heard of the Supreme Court.
2.1) Anyone who’s going to vote Republican in ‘08 should instead get themselves a nice lollipop and rent a few Three Stooges videos.

Easter.
Easter doesn’t have the tradition of gift giving Christmas has. Or cards, parties, elaberate decorations, etc…
Egg hunts and candy bunnies don’t lend themsleves to crass commercialization.

There is a balance between the person and the principles/agenda. Those who would switch to McCain would appear to be voting personality or gender/race ahead of policy. That this might well bite them in the butt when non neutral Supreme Court appointments are made, when committments to spend needed AMERICAN TREASURE IN AN UNWINNABLE WAR, AND FURTHER LOSS OF YOUNG aMERICANS IN THAT SAME CAUSE may not have dawned on them. I believe either Democratic nomminee could get the job done well (although I personally favor Clinton). The sooner the detailed issue debates begin, the better. This is a tough complicated world whose problems will not be solved with sound bytes.
