Did McCain Accept The Endorsement Of An Anti-Catholic Bigot?

February 28, 2008

Bill Donohue of the Catholic League thinks so.  McCain was excited to receive the endorsement of San Antonio evangelist John Hagee, he of the end-times theology and adovcate of a pre-emptive military strike against Iran. Donahue rails:

“There are plenty of staunch evangelical leaders who are pro-Israel, but are not anti-Catholic. John Hagee is not one of them. Indeed, for the past few decades, he has waged an unrelenting war against the Catholic Church. For example, he likes calling it ‘The Great Whore,’ an ‘apostate church,’ the ‘anti-Christ,’ and a ‘false cult system.’

Here, Hagee says  that Hitler said he wouldn’t do anything that hasn’t been done by the Roman church for the past 800 years, just on a greater scale and more efficiently, and he’s certainly done exactly that. Hagee also refers to a false religions system that will be totally devoured by the anti-Christ.

  1. Hagee makes General Jack D. Ripper look normal.

Hagee is completely insane, isn’t he.

  2. General Jack D. Hagee: “War is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow [Catholic] infiltration, [Catholic] indoctrination, [Catholic]subversion and the international [Catholic] conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.”

  3. “You can’t fight in here gentlemen, this is the WAR room!”

Everyone is going insane nowadays. I never thought people like Sean Hannity and other conservatives would sink so low as to use the race card. Yes, I guess I’m naive. Naive and disgusted. They will only poison themselves in the end, but while this is going on…it’s so damn ugly. Shame on all of them.

  4. HAHAHA!

He even trotted out a visual aid!

  5. If I didn’t know better I would think he is jealous because the Catholic church makes more money than him…:)

  6. A different program with a Q&A period said AIDs is punishment for homosexuality. Stopped watching it, and don’t want to watch Hagee.

  7. On the right page now.
This stuff Hagee preaches is pure Bible! If you have a problem with what he says you need to take it up with the author.
It is not bigoted to point out the truth. It is a poor debater
who uses name calling instead of using facts. What most in liberal land do not like or agree with is that Hagee also says that the wages of sin is death,( be it unbelief, homosexuality, a woman’s choice (baby killing)), but the gift of God is salvation through Jesus Christ the LORD.
Check the facts, read the Bible then decide. Other wise you are just repeating hyperbole.

    Hey there Mickey,you-so-fine.

Nobody gives a rat’s ass what you “think”. Everyne in the US isn’t a “Christian”,or should I say for you righty fundies,a “CINO”(Christian in name only).

Now go back and let the ‘passer “touch your heart”.

    From the inside.

  9. Hagee said the Roman church — he did not say Roman Catholic Church. There is a difference.

  10. Why is a theological argument against the Catholic Church bigoted? I’m Protestant and I have HUGE disagreements with Catholic doctrine. Does that make me a bigot because I think they’re incorrect in their theology? I think Mormons have somewhat wacko theology as well…does that make me an anti-Mormon bigot? It’s like hating the sin but not the sinner. Catholics and Mormons probably think MY doctrinal beliefs are wack as a Protestant. I don’t get it.

I’m a huge fan of people like Hannity, Alan Keyes, and many other Catholics. I’m a huge fan of people like Mitt Romney, Orrin Hatch, and many other Mormons.

In fact, I’m a huge fan of Alan Colmes but I think his liberal beliefs can be wacky. Does that make me anti-Alan Colmes? I think not.

Strong, forceful disagreement with theology doesn’t make you a bigot. The very fact that you believe in a certain religion makes you ipso facto anti other religions. If you believe that everything is true, or nothing is true, you are a type of pluralist and thus anti specific beliefs. You’ve gotta be ANTI something if you believe in anything.

I’m generally a fan of Bill Donahue but I strongly disagree with him here…I don’t see the problem. Are we not allowed to criticize theology we perceive to be wrong??

  11. [...] he sought the endorsement of John Hagee and Rod Parsley, but has a problem with Billy Graham? Not that Graham is without his own [...]
