Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty.

Jonathan Martin at Politico has the rundown. He’s 47, has executive experience as governor, supported McCain when it wasn’t in vogue to do so, is much tougher on illegal immigration than McCain, was raised Catholic, but attends an evangelical megachurch, and is head of the National Governors Association.

  1. Hey, this could be fun.

From the Wiki: “Raised a Roman Catholic, Pawlenty converted to the Lutheran faith as an adult. However, in recent years he has regularly attended Wooddale Church (a member of the Minnesota Baptist Conference) in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, where his wife maintains membership, and where National Association of Evangelicals president Leith Anderson serves as senior pastor.”

And, “when the I-35W Mississippi River bridge collapsed in Minneapolis, killing thirteen people, and injuring dozens of others…some, including James Hovland, the mayor of Edina, quickly blamed Pawlenty’s tax policies.”

And, “Pawlently chose Carol Molnau, who also serves as Minnesota’s lieutenant governor, to serve as Minnesota’s transportation commissioner. Molnau, who does not have a college degree (a degree is not required by Minnesota law) and says she does not read bridge inspection reports, has sometimes been blamed for the bridge collapse.”

And, Minnesota Attorney General Hatch alleges sex offenders were housed at nursing home.

And, he was Republican Majority leader in the Minnesota House of Representatives under, guess who? Govenor Jesse Ventura.

    Woohoo!

  2. But , will we EVER be Clinton free ?

  3. Interestingly enough - I believe one of the McLaughlin group member mentioned him as an almost certain VP pick no matter who the GOP nominee was a few weeks ago - I had to look him up then.

  4. I’m in MN and I say no way will he be the one. He’s the chair of McCain’s campaign and couldn’t even get him in win in a state where he’s the Gov?
